Here at Riverside Elementary we are a growing community of over 80 military-connected students and are proud to announce our recognition as a first time Purple Star School! 

The Purple Star Designation from the state of Virginia, recognizes the continued and ongoing efforts of staff and students to support military connected students and their families. We have a strong peer led Student Ambassador Program that welcomes students on their first day and connects them with friends in the classroom. Our quarterly Military Kids Club with the school counselors ensures students remain connected to the school community throughout the year. The Month of the Military Child events and activities highlight our military connected students through having them on the morning news show, inviting parents on Purple Up Day and Donuts for Dependents, and our military themed Spirit Week. 

Our  staff participates in professional development to ensure that the entire school community acknowledges and understands the plight of a military-connected student. At Riverside, we have a strong culture and practice of collaboration with Specials and STEAM teachers to support our initiatives and efforts of supporting our military connected school community. 

From the moment students and families become  “Riverside Rockets” our goal is to  create a welcoming and supportive environment where all know that they are accepted and belong here.
